What is Mercedes Anti-Theft Protection?

Mercedes Benz COMAND, Audio 20, and Audio 50 head units feature a built-in security system that can lock the device when power is interrupted. This commonly happens after battery replacement, electrical repairs, or when the head unit is removed. The unit-specific PIN is tied to the device identifiers. A legacy radio that explicitly requests a 4-digit code is a different system: supported COMAND/NTG generations may use a 25-character anti-theft PIN, and the application method depends on the system generation. The two credentials are not interchangeable.
